Jakob Crafoord was the grandson of James Crafoord [SSNE 2090] and son of Jöran Crafoord [SSNE 2088]. The Swedish genealogist, Joar Crafoord, has noted that on several occasions during his 30 years criss-crossing all over Europe, Jöran Crafoord passed his family home of Ekno near Kungsor in Västmanland on numerous occasions. During such a visit in 1651, Jöran not only succeeded in making his wife pregnant, but also two other women, and all three within the space of three months. His legitimate son on this occasion was Jakob Crafoord. One of these illegitimate children died young, while the other, Olof Crafoord (1652-1710) served as an officer in the army. Jakob also joined the army, although in a different regiment to his half-brother. In 1668, Jakob had been ennobled, yet despite this he joined the army as an NCO. After being promoted, he became a fanrik in the Västmanland regiment, and a lieutenant by 1682. His final promotion was to the rank of captain in 1683 in which capacity he served until his death in September 1692. As Jakob Crafoord lay on his deathbed he was apparently attended by Karl XI who ordered his personal physician to attend him. He is buried in Björskogs church.
