Text sourceIn March 1621 Peter Barclay merchant and kinsman of Sir Patrick Barclay of Towie obtained a birthbrieve from Banff which noted Peter and John as merchants and citizens of Rostock. They were probably related to the Peter Barclay listed as migrating to Rostock as a silk merchant and becoming a burgess there in 1657. His eldest son called himself Joannes Barclay de Tolli. In 1664 his son John Stephen [SSNE 2469], a lawyer, settled in Riga and was still alive when Russians conquered Livonia in 1710.
