Robert Colnet served as a glasshardener and artillery officer. His nationality is unknown (French, German or Scottish). He came to Denmark in 1650, possibly after working in Sweden, as his travel money was paid out by a Danish resident in Stockholm. He was a glasshardener and on 5th December 1652 he took royal service as glass-master. In 1658 he was given land to build a glassworks but the seige of Copenhagen prevented it. In 1659 he became 'styck' lieutenant for the artillery, and later a captain in the ammunitions laboratory. He sailed to the Zealand coast and surprised prince Emanuel of Anhalt-Plotzkau in his quarters and took him and his people as prisoners to Fyn. That year Colnet made company chief and major. In 1675 he became the artillery's highest commanding officer in Copenhagen and he was active in the 1676 seige of Landskrona, where he was made lieutenant colonel. He was still in service in 1680.Dansk Biografiskt Lexicon, 1633-44, vol.3.
