James Wilson the younger was listed as a captain in Colonel James Wilson's [SSNE 116] regiment of the Norwegian army, serving from 13 June until 8 August 1644, when he was paid off. Wilson then served as a captain in lieutenant colonel Thomas Gray's [SSNE 45] squadron of the Smålenske regiment in Norway from 8 April until 14 September 1645 when he was paid off again
