Jonas Charisius (1571-1619) was a Danish Diplomat and head of the German Chancery in Denmark. He travelled to England with Christian Friis, Henrik Ramel, Niels Krag and Mandrup Parsberg in 1600. Charisius again returned to England in 1602 with Parsberg and Arlid Huitfeldt. In 1612, Charisius, now a member of the 'Rigsaad' (Danish State Council) and a doctor of law, returned to England with a creditive to James Stuart and another to Robert Cecil. By 1618 he had another creditive for a journey to the Stuart Court, and was certainly there by February 1619. Robert Anstruther appears to refer to him as 'Cloudi' in a letter from Christian Friis (deduced by other references to his arrival and duties in London). On his return to Denmark he contracted plague and died in Novemeber 1619.
