The School of Physics and
Astronomy
at the University of St Andrews
We are
pleased to welcome Ulf Leonhardt as our new professor in Theoretical Physics. Ulf joins us
from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. His reseach in theoretical quantum
optics hit international headlines a few months ago when he predicted the optical equivalent of black holes. Other research
interests include the quantum state of light, and how it is affected by instruments. As
well as an impressive list of refereed scientific publications, Ulf has written a book on
"Measuring the Quantum State of Light", which is published by Cambridge
University Press.
Ulf's main contributions to our teaching will start in September, though students are
likely to be able to benefit from his deep and broad knowledge before then.
