Young Artist Award

Welcome to the MUSA Young Artist Award 2018!

pupil creating artworkNow in its twelfth year, the MUSA Young Artist Award is an annual art competition for schools in Fife. It aims to recognise and support creativity in schools, and promote learning using the University of St Andrews' museum collections as a starting point.

Competition theme: Light and Dark

The theme for this year's competition is Light and Dark. Pupils are encouraged to explore the historic objects and artworks at the Museum of the University of St Andrews and use them as inspiration for their creations.

Who can enter?

The competition is open to all schools and nurseries in Fife.  There are six categories for entries:

  • Category A - Nurseries
  • Category B - Primary 1 to Primary 3
  • Category C - Primary 4 to Primary 5
  • Category D - Primary 6 to Primary 7
  • Category E - S1 to S3
  • Category F - Additional Support Needs

What do you win?

First, second and third prize will each get a certificate, a certificate for their school and a specially commissioned medal.

  • Winners in Categories A and B will also get a selection of art materials.
  • Winners in Categories C, D, E and F will receive vouchers for art materials worth the following amounts:
    • First prize: £40
    • Second prize: £25
    • Third prize: £10

Winning entries will be displayed in a public exhibition and on this website

Booking a workshop

Secondary Schools can also arrange a free workshop in the classroom if visiting the museum is too difficult. For booking information see the Booking a Visit page. Preparing in the classroom
