The Black Death and the Peasants' Revolt in England

Professor Chris Given-Wilson

PROGRAMME OF MEETINGS - 2000

Meetings will be held on Tuesdays and Fridays at 10.00 a.m. in the New Seminar Room, 65 South Street. Everyone must attend all meetings.

Everyone must purchase a copy of Rosemary Horrox, The Black Death (Manchester University Press, 1994), and bring it to all meetings; as well as a copy of the departmental source-booklet on the Peasants Revolt (1). As a general text book on the Black Death, I also recommend The Black Death in England, ed. M. Ormrod and P. Lindley (Paul Watkins Press, 1996) but this is not a compulsory purchase.

Everyone must write two essays for this course, by the specified dates. One of these will be principally about the Black Death, another principally about the 1381 revolt. Everyone must also give one oral presentation to the class. Essays submitted late without good reason will be subject to the standard penalties. There will also be set reading for a number of seminars.
