Herb Garden

The physic herb garden was created in 1996 by Bob Mitchell and the herbalist Zoe Capernaros.

It was designed in the format of the Scottish flag - The Saltire - with emphasis on medieval herbs of the 15th and 16th centuries. Since the Spring of 2002 a working group of Friends of the Botanic Garden has been involved in renovation and restoration.

The collection is based on the 1670 Physic Garden, the precursor of The Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh.

New for 2015:
A guide to what is in our orchard is available at the entrance to the orchard (just beyond the herb garden and vegetable plot).  It contains lots of information about the history, cultivation, taste and use of these fruits.
