Kieran McConaghy is a Lecturer at CSTPV, teaching primarily on the the MLitt in Terrorism and Political Violence programme. He completed his PhD at CSTPV in 2014. His doctoral thesis, Terrorism and the State: Intra-state Dynamics and the Response to Non-State Terrorism examines how the nature and character of the state can impact upon counter-terrorism, drawing examples from the Northern Ireland, Basque, and French-Algerian conflicts. In 2014, Kieran was Handa Research Fellow at CSTPV, completing a report entitled Scotland and Separatism: Reverberations of the Scottish Independence Referendum on Separatist Politics. His research interests include ethno-nationalist terrorism, nationalism and the politics of independence movements, and state and media discourses on terrorism.
