TUSLIP   Day of Physics 2011

The Tayside Universities and Schools Liaison Group (TUSLIP) will hold its annual "Day of Physics" on Wednesday 21 September 2011.  This day is for pupils studying physics at sixth year in Fife and the former Tayside.  TUSLIP was formed many years ago with representatives from secondary schools in Tayside and Fife and from the Higher Education establishments in Dundee and St Andrews.  The "Day of Physics" is now the major event of the year for the group, and typically attracts around 120 secondary school pupils each year.  We are delighted that the Institute of Physics in Scotland is supporting this event.

Schools are invited to arrange for such pupils to travel to the School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of St Andrews in order to take part in a number of physics activities.   Pupils should be able to investigate some physics in our teaching laboratories, interact with our students, hear something about careers with physics, and experience a "real" university lecture. It is intended as a promotion of physics for further study and a career, not as an event to market St Andrews, Dundee, or any other particular university.   The initial idea of the event came from local teachers, and the day has evolved over the years to take account of the comments of participants.

We are grateful for the support over the years of the local science advisers and teachers.  We are pleased to acknowledge significant financial support in this and previous years from the Institute of Physics in Scotland.
