UTREC are committed to offering training to both staff and students and works closely with CAPOD to offer a range of training and information sessions.
As a member of the Association for Research Ethics (AfRE), a self-governing body of Research Ethics Committees, we are continuously seeking new ways to improve knowledge of ethical issues raised by Higher Education teaching and research activities. AfRE schedule training events which can be booked with them direct.
UTREC is bound by the regulations and guidelines of The RCUK Policy and Guidelines on Governance of Good Research Conduct - 'Where ethical approval is delegated to schools and departments, procedures should be in place [i.e. training for SEC members] to ensure the quality and equity of ethical approach across the whole of the research organisation, and there should be clear supervisory arrangements for delegated procedures.' The implications of breaching these guidelines could be the withdrawal of monies from funding Councils.
Training events are scheduled throughout the year and can be booked via CAPOD's PDMS system.
Training can be provided on a one-to-one basis throughout the year for any administration issues surrounding the ethical review process, including the use and management of the ethical database. In addition to which, administrative support is always available by telephone and email to assist with general queries.
