Collaboration within the University of St Andrews
Ethical approval should be sought from the School within which the lead researcher works. As part of their ethical review, the application must be sent to any other Schools/Units involved to inform the ethical review process. Applications for collaborative research must not be approved without the agreement of all involved Schools/Units.
Collaboration with other Universities / Organisations
Research often occurs in collaboration with other higher education institutions. Where collaboration occurs with the main researcher outwith the University, the St Andrews researcher and the SEC should satisfy themselves that ethical approval has been gained by the main researcher from an institution which has a good and effective ethics committee. As such Ethical Approval given by other U.K. Universities will normally be recognised by UTREC. However, please note a copy of the external approval letter and application must be submitted to the relevant SEC and extracted details must be added to the database.
