Postgraduate study
The University of St Andrews offers a broad range of postgraduate studies, with more than 1,000 postgraduates currently studying in one of our four Faculties of Arts, Divinity, Medicine and Science. St Andrews is a remarkable and exciting institution which combines the cosmopolitanism of an international university with a strong sense of community derived from its location in a small and ancient town. The scale of the University allows us to compete successfully for private and public funding for our path-breaking research while being small enough to provide individual attention to everyone who chooses to study here.
A list of all Masters courses, including the MLitt and MSc programmes offered by the University, can be found online. Students who have already gained a good Bachelor's Degree may benefit from a taught course.
Research degrees include the MPhil, PhD, DLang, EngD, MSc (Res) and MSt (Res) and require either a good undergraduate degree for the Faculty of Science, or a Masters degree for the Faculties of Arts and Divinity.

Some taught postgraduate courses are available to study online. These courses allow students who are unable to attend the University to study remotely, although they do take longer to complete than the equivalent full-time programme.
Joint programmes and research ventures have been developed by the University in conjunction with other universities in Scotland and Europe. These collaborative programmes offer the expertise of two leading institutions and form a unique postgraduate experience.
