Fees

• When to pay your deposit

  You must pay your deposit within two weeks of receiving your conditional or unconditional offer. Failure to pay your deposit can result in you losing your offer of a place at the University of St Andrews.

• When to pay your further payment

  Once you have paid your deposit and met all the conditions of your offer, you must make a further payment. A request for this further payment will be emailed to you with your unconditional offer.

  For visa applicants: due to immigration rules regarding financial evidence and maintenance, it is strongly recommended that you do not pay more than your deposit and further payment until you have been successful in your visa application.

• When to pay the rest of your fees

  After making your further payment, there will still be an outstanding balance for the rest of your fees.You can pay your balance in one single payment or in two instalments.

  If you are paying in two instalments, these are your deadlines:

  • If your programme starts in September, 50% of your balance is due on or before the start date of your programme, and the other 50% is due by 1 of January.
  • If your programme starts in January, 50% of your balance is due on or before the start date of your programme, and the other 50% is due by 1 of May.

• Bank transfer

  The University has partnered with Western Union to allow you to securely send international wire transfers for payment of fees in your local currency. With a bank transfer you have:

  • no additional fees
  • an online form
  • more favourable exchange rate than credit cards in most cases
  • a quoted rate that stays the same for three days, allowing time for the transfer to happen at the same exchange rate.

  Making a bank transfer

  Have your student identity (ID) number at hand, as you will need to provide it to make a transfer. 

  Your ID number is the nine-digit number that can be found on your offer letter. If payment is made on behalf of a student (for example, a parent or guardian), the payer will also be required to complete their own information.
  
  Accurate information ensures that the funds you transfer are allocated promptly to the correct account at the University of St Andrews. 

  1. Fill out the online form. Enter the amount you are paying next to 'ELT / Foundation Programmes'.
  2. You will then receive an email confirming the details you need to pass onto your bank, including a reference number.
  3. Contact your bank with these details (by phone or in person).
  4. The bank will then transfer the money to Western Union within your home country and currency.

• Credit card

  To make a payment using your credit card:

  1. Go to the University's online payment web page.
  2. Complete the 'Student Details' section.
  3. Read through and tick the box to accept the University's terms and conditions.
  4. Confirm who is paying the fees (yourself, an agent a parent, etc.).
  5. Choose 'ELT / Foundation Programmes' and enter the amount you are paying.
