The Scottish Credit Accumulation and Transfer (SCOTCAT) system allows credits gained in Scotland to be transferred between institutions. The number of credits associated with a module gives an indication of the amount of learning effort required by the learner. European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) credits are half the value of SCOTCAT credits.

Module description

The objective of the module is language learning and cultural familiarisation through a study or work placement in a Russian-speaking country. Placements will be as students in Russian at a Foreign Language department at universities or in language schools. Formal learning and assessment will occur across both semesters and will be through: (i) Two short written assignments totalling 500 words. (ii) an essay of 2500 words in Russian on a topic chosen in consultation with the module co-ordinator. (iiI) a 10-minute oral exam in Russian to be sat upon the student's return to St Andrews after the WIYA year, during which the year abroad experience will be presented and discussed.

IN TAKING THIS MODULE YOU MUST HAVE ADMISSION TO A RUSSIAN HONOURS PROGRAMME WITH INTEGRATED YEAR ABROAD AND MUST NOT BE ON AN ERASMUS EXCHANGE.

IN TAKING THIS MODULE YOU CANNOT TAKE RU3102 OR ERASMUS EXCHANGE/ UNIVERSITY PLACEMENT

Practical Examination = 25%, Coursework = 75%
