Module description
This module serves as an option for the final year project in mathematics and statistics. Students will submit a portfolio comprising a range of outputs based on a single research topic, where the topic addresses a real-world problem, is amenable to group work and may involve external partners. The students make independent submissions consisting of a flexible but compulsory element (70% of the module grade) alongside a free choice element (30% of the module grade). The compulsory component comprises: a written technical report (40% of the module grade) alongside a written reflective element (10% of the module grade) and a 15-minute summary presentation of the work, as one of slidecast/video podcast/live presentation (20%). The remaining 30% is a single element selected from diverse options suitable to the project.

Intended learning outcomes
- Demonstrate understanding of the key mathematical or statistical concepts and methods in their chosen area for the project
- Understand the significance of their subject matter and its links with other areas
- Present their findings in forms that advance the needs of the real-world project e.g. software, exemplar case-studies, popular press style article.
- Present their key findings in the form of a short presentation, either live, or online version (e.g. videocast, slidecast) as befits project needs.
- Identify and display personal improvements in aspects of their entrepreneurial mindset e.g. creativity, confidence and adaptability, problem solving
