Module description

This module will provide in-depth study of one of the most momentous events in contemporary World History, the Iranian Revolution of 1977-79, as well as assess the genesis of the post-revolutionary state order until the impeachment and dismissal of President Abolhassan Bani-Sadr. It will rely on both theoretical frameworks and an extensive primary sourcebase to discuss events such the various phases of the Revolution, the pluralistic Spring of Freedom of 1979, the takeover of the US Embassy and internecine struggles during the start of the Iran-Iraq War.

  • Gain the necessary skills to engage in independent research by relying on broad primary source repositories, deriving from British, American and Iranian sources.
  • Make use of several Digital Humanities skills in order to make efficient use of the considerable amount of digital primary and secondary material and their disposal.
  • Deliver the products of their individual research in both oral and specific written formats, including in-class presentations, critical analyses of relevant primary sources and extended research-driven papers.
