SCOTCAT credits

The Scottish Credit Accumulation and Transfer (SCOTCAT) system allows credits gained in Scotland to be transferred between institutions. The number of credits associated with a module gives an indication of the amount of learning effort required by the learner. European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) credits are half the value of SCOTCAT credits.

The Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) provides an indication of the complexity of award qualifications and associated learning and operates on an ascending numeric scale from Levels 1-12 with SCQF Level 10 equating to a Scottish undergraduate Honours degree.

This module will only be available to students who have been accepted onto the IE Pathway to Medicine (September and January) and International Year One Science (biology track).

Module description

This is an introduction to the study of the physiological systems in the human body. In particular it typically covers cell structure, cell function and cell membranes, homeostasis, temperature regulation, metabolism and enzymes, the endocrine system, the nervous system and circulatory, respiratory and digestive systems. It is particularly relevant for students on the Pathway to Medicine (September and January), but also for students on the International Year One Science programme who are interested in Biology.
