SCOTCAT credits

The Scottish Credit Accumulation and Transfer (SCOTCAT) system allows credits gained in Scotland to be transferred between institutions. The number of credits associated with a module gives an indication of the amount of learning effort required by the learner. European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) credits are half the value of SCOTCAT credits.

Module description

This module improves students’ ability to read Classical Hebrew literature. Three areas of specialization will be emphasized: vocalizing Tiberian Hebrew, translation, and Hebrew syntax.

3-hour Written Examination = 50%, Coursework = 50%

Intended learning outcomes

  • Intended Learning Outcomes If you diligently apply yourself in this module, you should: acquire intermediate-level knowledge of biblical Hebrew morphology, syntax, and vocabulary (Knowledge and Understanding) improve your ability to read and translate biblical Hebrew prose more quickly and more accurately, and improve your abilities to pursue exegesis of biblical Hebrew texts by advanced understanding of Hebrew syntax (Discipline Specific and Intellectual Skill) improve your performance ability to read and translate the primary texts in their original Hebrew, access and evaluate critically the scholarly work of others, and learn to demonstrate your knowledge of the language in the weekly assignments and in the final exam (Transferable Skill).
