Module description

The year-long dissertation offers students the possibility to engage in advanced independent study on a topic in Comparative Literature on which they already have adequate basic knowledge and for which a suitable supervisor, or supervisors, can be found. The dissertation will, as a rule, consist of a study of a given body of primary or theoretical texts analysed in a comparatist framework. The topic must be agreed in advance by the Comparative Literature Honours Adviser following a favourable report from the proposed supervisor(s). Agreement is subject to appropriate supervision arrangements, suitability of topic and sufficient prior knowledge. The dissertation length is 10 000 words and is normally written in English. In addition to individual supervision, training sessions are offered on research methods, academic writing, and presentation. (Guidelines for printing and binding dissertations can be found at: http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/printanddesign/dissertation/).
