Tier 4 exceptions

If you are a national of one of the countries listed below, you do not need to provide evidence of your English language proficiency when you apply for your visa to study in the UK.

  • Antigua and Barbuda
  • Australia
  • The Bahamas
  • Barbados
  • Belize
  • Canada
  • Dominica
  • Grenada
  • Guyana
  • Jamaica
  • New Zealand
  • St Kitts and Nevis
  • St Lucia
  • St Vincent and the Grenadines
  • Trinidad and Tobago
  • United Kingdom
  • United States of America.

Postgraduate students

If you are applying for postgraduate study, and you have completed an academic qualification that is equivalent to a UK undergraduate degree in one of the countries listed below, you will not need to provide further evidence of your English language proficiency when you apply for your visa to study in the UK.

  • Barbados
  • Belize
  • Dominica
  • Grenada
  • Guyana

  • Jamaica
  • New Zealand

Other exceptions

You do not need to provide evidence of your English language proficiency if one of the following applies:

  • you have studied in the UK before as a Tier 4 (Child) student
  • you are applying to come to the UK for a study abroad programme as part of a university degree course in the USA.
