Information for parents

As a result of the longstanding and successful partnership between the University of St Andrews and the College of William & Mary, we are familiar with regulatory frameworks and developments in the US higher education sector, and where these differ in approach from those in the UK.  In the context of the Joint Degree Programme, St Andrews must also be mindful of the UK legal framework regarding data protection.  The University of St Andrews, in accordance with the Data Protection Act of 1998, is subject to strict laws that forbid the release of information about students to any external party.  The relationship between the University and parents may therefore vary depending on whether your son/daughter is at St Andrews or William & Mary.    For information on how St Andrews interacts with partners, please visit our webpage for Parents.

Parents/guardians of St Andrews students are important members of the University’s extended community. For this reason, Development runs a Family Programme which aims to keep families up to date with news and developments at the University and provides them with a range of benefits and services.
