Information and advice

Students sitting outside at William & Mary

As a BA (International Honours) student, you have access to the same facilities and services that are available to all other registered students of St Andrews.

The Collaborations and Study Abroad Team run student consultation hours from 2-4pm, Monday to Friday, during term time in St Katharine’s West, The Scores.  During these hours, we invite students to drop-in for up to ten minutes to discuss any questions you may have relating to the BA (International Honours) programme and your time in St Andrews.  Our BA (International Honours) Intern will also be available to speak to students during some of the drop-in sessions.

If we are unable to answer all of your questions during the drop-in sessions, we can arrange an appointment with one of our team.  Please note that you must first attend a drop-in session to schedule an appointment.

If you have any questions or concerns about your studies, you can also email Registry or Dr David Evans, the Pro Dean Curriculum (Arts & Divinity).

If you are arriving in St Andrews for the first time from William & Mary, you may wish to refer to our BA (International Honours) Orientation Guide Spring 2017 (PDF, 899 KB)

Advice and Support Centre (the ASC)

The ASC is the primary information point for all students of St Andrews, and you can pop in there with any questions or concerns.

Centre for Academic, Professional and Organisational Development (CAPOD)

CAPOD offers a range of academic and development services to undergraduate students. We recommend that WaMStA students familiarise themselves with the CAPOD service and utilise the academic skills' support available. Adjusting to a new academic culture can be challenging, and CAPOD services will be useful in helping you to familiarise yourself with academic expectations at St Andrews, essay writing, assessment, as well as academic rules and regulations.

Economics students may be interested in the Mathematics and Statistics support offered by CAPOD.

Careers Centre

The Careers Centre has a variety of tools and resources that are available to all students, and also runs specific events aimed at BA (International Honours) students seeking to highlight their unique educational experience to employers in the UK, the US and across the world.  Students may consult directly with Robert Gelb, the International Opportunities Manager who organises events and resources for WaMStA students.

Involve yourself!

"In your first week make sure to go out to lots of events.  The St Andrews tradition of the academic family mentoring system is a great resource.  They can provide support in your first weeks and introduce you to even more people.  Your fellow WaMStAs can provide support too. They are going through a similar experience and are just as nervous as you.  Seek help when needed but remember you are responsible for taking the first steps towards happiness here."  Rachel, BA (International Honours) - Economics

Of course, although your studies are important, St Andrews offers you many opportunities to become involved in student life outside of the classroom. Check the Involve yourself web pages for lots of information about the Students' Association, music and drama, sport, religious communities, and lots more.  You may also wish to get involved with the WaMStA Student Partnership, which is designed to provide a support network and help maximise student engagement in both communities and across the institutions.

WaMStA Student Partnership

The WaMStA Student Partnership organises social gatherings for WaMStA students while also providing BA (International Honours) students the opportunity to gain leadership skills by serving on the organisation’s board. The Partnership acts as both a social outlet and a support system, connecting students across institutions, degrees and years. The Partnership’s website is home to helpful blog posts and other resources geared for BA (International Honours) students.
