Coronavirus information and guidance

USA

Tradition and excellence characterise St Andrews and are two of the qualities that make it a popular destination for US students. Our flexible degree structure combined with a focus on independent study will provide a platform for academic and professional success. Outside the classroom, a broad range of clubs and sports teams enhance the St Andrews experience. The beautiful coastal location and over 600 years of institutional history only add to the academic and student-life experience.

Entry requirements

Our programmes are all highly competitive, students will need:

  • SAT: 1320+ (essay optional, we will superscore the SAT)
  • ACT: 28+ (writing optional)

Due to the disruption of SAT and ACT testing dates, we are making a definitive statement that we will not penalize students for the absence of a standardized test score. Most applicants are likely to have taken at least one type of standardised test (AP, SAT subject test, SAT or ACT), but we will consider applicants without testing.

Clubs and societies

Sport at St Andrews is a vibrant, dynamic and important part of student life. With over 50 sports clubs and 100 competitive sports teams, and a thriving hall sport programme, we offer sport for everyone at all levels.

St Andrews also has over 160 student societies ranging from artistic and musical through to religious and cultural, meaning our societies cater for a huge array of interests.

Students from the USA may be interested in the following student societies in particular:

  • At Home and Abroad Society (AHAsoc) is a support and social network for both students who choose to take a semester or year abroad as part of their degree and for international students studying in St Andrews.
  • A Cappella is very popular at St Andrews and there are several groups you could be part of. They also host the Scottish A Cappella championships.
  • The Debating Society is the oldest debating club in the world and is open to all students. It runs weekly training sessions, outreach activities with local schools and attends competitions internationally.
  • Charities Campaign and St Andrews Voluntary Services (SVS) offer volunteering and fundraising opportunities for students, supporting the local community as well as national and international charities.
