Additional criteria

  • Be a current postgraduate research student studying in the Department of Philosophy, studying at postgraduate research level only, either full-time or part-time
  • Be in financial need
  • Have not received a University or UKRI-related stipend, so you are not currently receiving a maintenance scholarship
  • Receive annual funding less than £19,237 from external sources

Exemptions from these criteria will be considered only in exceptional and well-motivated circumstances.

This scholarship is available through the Philosophy SASP Financial Hardship application form. You can access this application through the Scholarships and funding catalogue in the Scholarships and Funding section in MySaint.

Scholarship application form guidance

The Department of Philosophy Postgraduate Committee will assess all applications and allocate awards to successful applicants based on the information provided.

Students are required to enter their bank details onto MySaint so that payments can be made if the application is successful.

  • The University Court has delegated to the Department of Philosophy the power to make awards from the PGR Financial Hardship Fund. The Postgraduate Committee’s decision on any application is final. If you are unhappy with the decision and wish to make a complaint, please email the Head of School on pafs-hos@st-andrews.ac.uk
  • Although the information given on the application form is confidential to the Department of Philosophy, you should be aware that the University’s auditor may also have access to this information.
  • The information on the online application form must be completed to the best of your knowledge and must be accurate. If you intentionally provide inaccurate information you may be subject to the University’s Non-Academic Misconduct Policy (Students). Action may be taken to recover any award made to you and you may not be permitted to matriculate or graduate until the award is recovered.
  • You will become ineligible to receive an award if you take a Leave of Absence or withdraw from your course. You must notify the Department of Philosophy of any changes in your circumstances by email to pgpafs@st-andrews.ac.uk.
