This scholarship was established through generous donations from family and friends in memory of Katie Mortimer Pearson, MA (Hons) English Language and Literature 1982, who sadly died after a long battle with cancer.

The scholarship is part of the Wardlaw Scholarship scheme, established in 2004 to provide financial assistance to academically gifted students who would otherwise struggle with the cost of studying at the University of St Andrews.

Applicants are required to provide a creative writing piece. Successful applicants will be asked to update or add to their original piece at the end of every academic year. The hope is that, over many years and through many scholars, we will build an anthology of work representing the thoughts, attitudes and aspirations of St Andrews students in the UK.

Value of award (per year)

£4,400 towards:

  • tuition, if you are a student from the EU with an overseas fee status
  • maintenance, if you are a student with a home or rest of the UK fee status

Duration of award

This award is paid annually for the duration of the student's undergraduate programme.
