Online Postgraduate Scholarships

There are five one-off scholarships, each worth £6,000 towards tuition fees, available for students commencing the Data Science online course in January 2026. Funded by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), these scholarships aim to support talented individuals seeking financial assistance to pursue advanced study in data science and develop specialist skills in artificial intelligence.

At what stage of my course application can I apply for this scholarship?

You can apply for the scholarship after you have submitted your course application for a place at the University of St Andrews. You do not need to wait until you have received an offer of a place before applying for the scholarship.

Additional criteria

You will need to provide a course suitability statement of up to 450 words, addressing the following points:

  • Why you have applied for the course
  • How the course aligns with your personal or professional ambitions
  • How your academic and/or professional background demonstrates that you have the skills needed to succeed at postgraduate level
  • Any barriers you have faced in accessing higher education (e.g. related to location, finances, caring responsibilities, disabilities, or other personal circumstances)

How to apply

  1. Apply for your Data Science online course at the University St Andrews: Masters. Your course should meet the eligibility criteria for this scholarship (see above). After submitting your course application, you must allow up to two working days to receive login details for the My Application portal.
  2. When you have received your login details, apply for the scholarship by logging into My Application, follow the links to Scholarships and Funding and then search for EPSRC AI skills fund - MSc Data Science online (January 2026 entry only) in the Scholarships and funding catalogue.

Terms and conditions

This scholarship is a one-off award of £6,000, which will be paid directly towards your tuition fee liability for the academic year 2025–26.

The award will be made as a single payment and cannot be:

  • Used in any other academic year
  • Split across multiple academic years
  • Converted into a maintenance or living cost payment
