Angus House and Stanley Smith House
Angus House and Stanley Smith House are located in the centre of St Andrews. Each flat in the houses includes a communal bathroom and kitchen with dining and living areas. The houses are only a minute’s walk away from the main high street in St Andrews, and a five to ten-minute walk away from University buildings.
There will be limited availability in Angus and Stanley Smith Houses for Postgraduate students during academic year 2024-25. These will be on 38 week contracts 7th September 2024 until 31st May 2025.
Refurbishments and external maintenance works summer 2024
Due to rolling refurbishments Angus and Stanley Smith rooms will only be available for 37-week contracts (2 September 2023 to 18 May 2024). Students allocated with a 37-week contract will need to apply for summer accommodation if it is required. This is likely to involve transfer to a different residence.

Angus House and Stanley Smith House are self-catered standard accommodation comprising of three and four-bedroom apartments.
Angus House Flat 1 and Stanley Smith Flat 1 each have 1 wheelchair accessible room and have a double bed provided. The shower room and kitchen in each of these flats have been designed with accessibility in mind.
Each apartment contains a shared bathroom and kitchen. Laundry facilities are located at the back of Stanley Smith House.
Utilities are included in the rent.
For postgraduate students, Angus House and Stanley Smith House have:
- 43 self-catered single rooms with single-size beds
- 2 self-catered accessible rooms with double-size beds.

Self-catered standard contract for 50 weeks for the 2024-2025 academic year: £6,579
Location
The houses are conveniently located behind the Chaplaincy Centre across from the Students' Union. They are close to the centre of town, as well as a short walk to many PhD office spaces and the University Library.
What are Angus House and Stanley Smith House like?
Angus House and Stanley Smith House were refurbished in 2017 with new kitchens and bathrooms. The houses provide a small close-knit community with a committee who run social events throughout the year.
Facilities
There is one laundry room shared between both houses. The laundry room contains one washer and one dryer which are card-operated. You can buy a card from the card dispensers in the laundry room which you pre-load with credit via an online portal.
