Dr Sarah Whittle

Sarah Whittle

Student Life & Wellbeing Adviser [Postgraduate]

‌Sarah joined Student Services in January 2015 to take up the role of Support Adviser (Postgraduate), working alongside Maggie Winton and Jo McCulloch (Undergraduate) in the Support Advice Team.

Before discovering higher education as a mature student, Sarah worked in Tameside as a support worker in disability services and then as a supported housing officer, working with statutorily homeless households in emergency accommodation.

Sarah has a BA in Theology and Pastoral studies, a MA in Biblical Studies, and a PhD in New Testament from the University of Manchester. Because she was keen to support learners and develop in learning and teaching and professional practice, Sarah completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice and subsequently became a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.  Sarah teaches and supervises a number of research students through her work in theological education as well as researching, publishing and chairing national and international seminars.

All of these experiences mean that Sarah is in a good position to support postgraduate taught and postgraduate research students who might be finding difficulties with work, transitions, relationships with peers and supervisors, who might be exploring professional development and career paths, or who just want to talk.  She is a patient listener who seeks to resource students and make referrals where other services may be helpful.
