PSC History

PSC Passport 2012

In 2013 the British Army began delivering a popular series of practical skills sessions for us called ‘Leadership in Practice’ and the PSC was endorsed by the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM).

In 2014, the number of PSC topics on offer grew to over 30.

In 2015/16, all students could study for a Microsoft Office Specialist IT certificate alongside the PSC.

2015/16 was also the year that a 15-strong team of student volunteers became the PSC operating team and took responsibility for running much of the programme. The PSC expanded into the local high school, PSC: Extra, PSC: Leadership and PSC: Alumni initiatives launched, and our PSC twitter feed and app was created. During the PSC’s 5th birthday year, over 600 students engaged with the programme, and a record 115 gained a certificate.

In 2016/17 the PSC restructured so that participants begin by undertaking a skills analysis and choosing 5 skills that they wish to develop over the year.

In 2017/18 PSC+ was launched, to allow PSC Award holders to continue their skill development by choosing to specialise in IT, enterprise or negotiation skills.

In 2018/19 Our PSC+ Alumni award was launched.

In 2019/20 More PSC+ strands were added to the programme (Teaching, Consultancy, Organisational Psychology, Communication).

In 2020/21 The PSC was mapped to our new set of St Andrews graduate attributes.
