Support for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic students

The University of St Andrews is committed to creating a culture of inclusivity, diversity and equality for staff and students.  We will not tolerate any form of racism or discrimination.

The University has developed an online diversity training module, which was recently reviewed with members from the Student BAME Network, and Sabbatical members.  Once re-launched, it will become a compulsory element of matriculation for students.  In addition, the University will launch an online Report & Support tool in 2020, which will enable students to report racial harassment and other concerns to the University.

If you want to speak to a member of staff about issues affecting you as a BAME student, please email support.advice@st-andrews.ac.uk

For more information about confidentiality, please read Student Services Confidentiality Statement

Coronavirus

Coronavirus has had a dramatic impact on the student experience. We are aware that the effects of Covid-19 are felt most for those with underlying health conditions, but we also recognise the impact that this pandemic has had on the BAME community.

Our website holds information on our response to Covid-19.

Race Equality

The University of St Andrews is committed to promoting race equality, eliminating unlawful discrimination and promoting equality of opportunity and good relations between persons of different racial groups in all of its activities. The University values the diversity of its staff and student population and is committed to ensuring that the highest equality and diversity standards are maintained.

Student Representation:

The St Andrews Students’ Association has an Equal Opportunities Committee, which includes a Member for Racial Equality. More details can be found on the Student Association website.

The SRC Race Equality representative is a core member of the University’s Institutional Race Ethnicity Religion & Belief Group, providing an opportunity for BAME students to propose agenda items for discussion at groups meetings or support for resources.  The group is chaired by the AVP (Diversity).
