Pre-requisite

Many modules have pre-requisites, which define the prior knowledge needed to take the module. In most cases this is expressed in terms of passes in other St Andrews modules, though it may involve external exam passes for modules taken in the first semester of first year. If you believe that you are appropriately qualified through some other route, you can discuss this with your Adviser of studies. Permission from the school concerned and also your Adviser of studies is required to waive a pre-requisite.

Pre-requisites are listed in the course catalogue. There are also anti-requisites, which say that you can't take both of a particular pair of modules.
