Honours entry

The policy on Entry to Honours (PDF, 525 KB) defines the rules for progression to the Honours part of an Honours degree programme. The required module grades are listed in the programme requirements for each degree programme. All schools offer automatic entry to Honours if you achieve the required grades at first sitting. In some circumstances there is also a second chance, via qualified entry.

If you do not meet the requirements for Honours entry, you can appeal, which is called requesting a review of the decision. If that is not successful, you may be eligible to enter Honours in a different degree programme, or to complete a General degree.

If you are currently registered on an Integrated Masters programme, and do not meet the requirements for Honours entry in that programme, but you do meet the requirements for the corresponding BSc programme, then you will be offered entry to the BSc. In that case, it may be possible to transfer back to Integrated Masters at the end of Junior Honours, if your grades in that academic year are high enough.

If you are on a BSc programme and narrowly miss the requirements to transfer to Integrated Masters at the end of Junior Honours, you have the right to submit an appeal via the review form below. The deadline is 10 working days after the publication of module results in June, and 5 working days after the publication of module results in August and January.

If you are taking a module required for Honours entry for the second time, and therefore cannot meet the regulations, you can appeal for it to be treated as a first attempt via the review form below. You can do so before you have taken all the required modules, if you wish to get more certainty on whether Honours entry remains a possibility. The deadline is 10 working days after the publication of module results in June, and 5 working days after the publication of module results in August and January.

You can also appeal as described in the previous paragraph, if you have taken a module required for Honours entry for the first time in the current academic year, and have failed it without the right to reassessment.

Note the temporary mitigation measures that are in place in 2020-21.
