Availability
The availability of a module defines which students can take it. Some modules are available to any student who has passed the pre-requisites (if any). Other modules are restricted in their availability. For example:
- to students in a particular faculty (for example, IR1005 is only available to first-year students in Arts and Divinity)
- to students in a particular year (for example, SP1001 is only available to first-year students; HI4101 is only available to Senior Honours students)
- to students on a particular programme (for example, AS1101 is only available to direct entry students in Physics or Astrophysics; PH1501 is only available to students on the Physics & Astronomy (Gateway) programme)
- to students on a particular programme type (for example, BL4801 is not available to undergraduates)
- to students with a particular mode of study (for example, IS1901 is only available to part-time evening students)
- by a limit on numbers (for example, CS5041 is always available to students on the MSc HCI programme, but there is a cap on other students due to equipment constraints; IR1005 is sometimes subject to a cap on numbers, with guaranteed places for students on an International Relations programme, and a ballot for other first-year students in Arts and Divinity)
- by other selection criteria (for example, ID4001 is only available to students who are accepted following an interview process)
Any additional availability restrictions like these are listed in the module's module catalogue entry.
