International Student Adviser
Jacky works within Student Services based at Eden Court, The Scores as a full-time International Student Adviser. Jacky has worked for the University of St Andrews for 14 years.
She has undertaken the Level 1 Initial Advice and Level 2 Caseworker Advice through the “Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner,” the qualifications enabling her to give advice to International Students on Tier 4 student visas, and basic immigration advice on things such as: British Citizenship, Asylum, Refugee Law and Practice and Human Rights Issues. Jacky attends regular updates with UK Visa & Immigration.
Jacky deals in the main with students (and if they have any – their dependents) who have Tier 4 general student visa queries. This involves having lots of email contact with students prior to them coming to St Andrews and helping with their initial visa application and questions and helping them to obtain their visas for coming to St Andrews. She deals with visa extensions for students that are already in the UK which includes the issuing of the CAS (Certificate of Acceptance to Study) numbers and she will check, give advice and send away the applications for our students. Jacky is also able to give information on remaining and working in the UK after study.
Previously working in the finance sector and at Stratheden Hospital for over 10 years. She lives locally in Cupar and has two grown up children. She says having older children helps her to have a better understanding of how to help students when they are stressed, lonely, needing encouragement or just someone who will listen. Jacky likes walking, Highland Hussle and sunshine holidays!
