Trainee International Student Adviser
Gillian joined St Andrews University in January 2019 as a trainee International Student Adviser. She has worked in a Higher Education administration environment for nine years, her previous roles as a Residences Officer and a Postgraduate Taught Admissions Assistant have given her a lot of experience in providing help and support to students.
Gillian is currently undertaking training in providing immigration advice to International students, this involves attending Level 1 and Level 2 courses through the 'Office of Immigration Services Commissioner' (OISC), and Tier 4 visa training offered by 'UK Council for International Student Affairs' (UKCISA).
Gillian deals with Tier 4 general student visa queries from students (and their dependents, if they have any). This involves having lots of email contact with students prior to them coming to St Andrews, helping with their initial visa application and answering questions. She deals with visa extensions for students that are already in the UK which includes the issuing of the CAS (Certificate of Acceptance to Study) numbers and she will check, give advice and help submit the applications for our students. Gillian is also able to give information on remaining and working in the UK after study.
