The use of spatial information in entropy measures

This work extends the proposal to include spatial components in entropy indices. We start from the probabilistic properties of Shannon’s entropy and exploit the characteristics of the quantity known as conditional entropy in order to include space as a second dimension in the analysis. This way, we extend the proposal of indices such as the contagion index and the co-occurrence based entropy into a bivariate context, where the probabilistic meaning of all components is well defined. As a direct consequence, we obtain the global conditional entropy as a sum of local entropy measures.
