ERC (European Research Council)

‌‌ERC logoThe mission of the European Research Council (ERC) is to support excellent research in all fields of science and scholarship. The main outputs of this research are new knowledge, ideas and understanding, which the ERC expects its researchers to publish in peer-reviewed articles and monographs.

The ERC considers that providing free online access to these materials is the most effective way of ensuring that the fruits of the research it funds can be accessed, read and used as the basis for further research.

Complete a Data Management Plan for ERC

This link will take you through to DMPonline, a tool developed by the DCC (Digital Curation Centre) to help you write DMPs. You will need to create an account and link it to your University credentials if you have not already done so.

Once successfully logged into DMPonline, click on the link 'not applicable/not listed' when asked for a funder. Enter 'European Research Council' for the name of the funder,  tick the DCC guidance box and click Create Plan to get started.

Data Management Plan

The ERC does not currently require a DMP to be submitted with the grant application, but the University advocates that you have a brief one in place.

Expectations of particular note

ERC supports the basic principle of Open Access to research data and recommends to all its funded researchers that you:

  • follow best practice by retaining files of all the research data you have used during the course of your work; and
  • be prepared to share this data with other researchers whenever it is not bound by copyright restrictions, by confidentiality agreements, or by contractual clauses.
