Welcome to the University of St Andrews!

To help new staff settle into their new role, a University Staff Induction is provided to which new staff are strongly encouraged to attend.  The induction is constantly developing and evolving to include changes, and your feedback is a valuable part of the development process.

The Staff Essentials workshops and the online induction resources have been developed to compliment the induction and provide information to help you prior/ after starting your role.

University Staff Induction

All new staff to the University are strongly encouraged to attend this induction event.

This induction, organised by CAPOD, runs in January and  end of August/September.  Lunch and refreshments are provided to all participants, and there are networking opportunities.  The induction process is constantly developing and evolving to include changes, and your feedback is a valuable part of the development process.

New Staff Essentials

These workshops run monthly, and new staff are encouraged to book a place as soon as possible.

This workshop introduces the key policies/ areas of the University and will provide essential information that all staff new to the University need to know.  The University has a legal obligation to provide this information to its employees, and keep them informed.  These short, friendly, events are run every month and have been developed to compliment the University Staff Induction.


The areas covered by the workshop include:

  • Environmental policy;

  • HR;

  • Unions;

  • Diversity;

  • Health & Safety;

  • Fire Awareness;

  • IT training;

  • Information Security and

  • Research and Development Scheme (RDS).

Online Induction resources

These resources have been developed to help you before and during your relocation to your new position.

A structured induction plan is crucial in helping you to settle into your new role & environment.  CAPOD coordinates the induction process for all new staff and has developed a varied range of online induction resources for new staff. This resource includes tailored induction plans (for each category) and other relevant and useful information you may need/ find useful prior to your arrival in St Andrews.
