Funding for External Researcher Development Events
CAPOD has a Researcher Development fund to help all research staff and postgraduate students to attend external courses and events that provide transferable research skills development opportunities that are not available via the GRADskills programme. This funding does not cover attendance at discipline-specific research conferences/symposia, unless there is a specific skills development opportunity on offer (eg a workshop on a statistical package used within your subject area).
Events that might be funded include (but are not limited to):
- Vitae conferences / workshops
- Society for Research into Higher Education conferences / workshops
- Applied Quantitative Methods Network (AQMeN) workshops
- British Library Postgraduate Open Days and workshops
- Career development events specific to your discipline
- Courses/workshops on public engagement or dealing with the media
Examples of events that have been funded in the past include: British Library Postgraduate Open Day (Humanities); Broadening Horizons: Career management for researchers; Multilevel Modelling using MLwiN; Researching Medical Education conference 2011; Standing Up for Science media workshop.
Staff may request up to 75%, and research postgraduates up to 100% of the total cost of attending an event (to a maximum of £150). For more information on the rules regarding allocation of funding and for guidelines on completing the funding application form, see the main Funding opportunities.
Any funds allocated will only be disbursed after the event has taken place and CAPOD has received your report on the benefits of attending.
