Strength 940

Strength & Conditioning

Sport specific fitness includes a structured developmental programme that can incorporate muscular endurance, strength, power, speed, aerobic or anaerobic conditioning. It has been shown that transference of the work carried out in the Strength and Conditioning Room into sports performance is high, producing better performances and reducing the incidence of injury. Strength and conditioning should be at the heart of the weekly training schedule for all athletes, whether performing at recreational, performance or elite level. Athletes can improve speed, strength, flexibility, coordination, agility and core strength, by utilising the Olympic lifts, the Snatch and the Clean and Jerk.

Due to dynamic nature of these lifts, it is essential that these lifts are only prescribed and supervised by qualified members of staff. The staff at the department have a wealth of lifting and coaching experience and have written plans for athletes competing at the highest level in Scotland, UK and on the European circuit.
