Weightlifting 700

Introduction

The sport of Weightlifting, also commonly referred to as Olympic Weightlifting, is an Olympic strength sport in which the athlete attempts to lift maximal weight with a loaded barbell and plates. There are two competition lifts: the Snatch and the Clean and Jerk, as well as a number of accessory lifts which are used to help maximise performance. Flexibility and core work are also two essential features to help the lifter achieve peak lifting ability.

The University of St Andrews Weightlifting Club was founded in 2015 by some keen lifting enthusiasts. Whilst initially run by the University's Strength and Conditioning Team, we are now self coached and participate in a number of competitions throughout the year. There are a number opportunities to compete at both local and national level, as well as in BUCS and at British level.

Coach

The club is coached by Matt Marriott, a Level 1 coach in the process of getting his Level 2 and Alejandro Jose.
