Mountaineering700

Introduction

Mountaineering is sport that encompasses a variety of interests and skills. Climbing, bouldering, navigation, winter climbing and scrambling are just some of the pursuits the club engages in.

Weekend trips provide the opportunity to venture out and learn/ develop these skills. Trips are run most weekends where we stay in mountain huts or camp near some of the most iconic Scottish landscapes. The club also organises Spring Break trips.

Members of all experience levels are welcome. Even if you have never wielded a rope or ice-axe, you will learn quickly if you engage with our club. Older members are always keen to teach and the club also provides opportunities to attend subsidised courses. In contrast, if you already climb E9- we are sure you will find someone to venture out with.

The club also provides climbing, safety, camping and navigation equipment. This greatly decreases the cost of the sport.

The University is in the middle of constructing new facilities at the Sports Centre and will be installing a world class climbing wall as part of Phase 2, expected in the spring.

We will be announcing training times soon, in the meantime please join our mailing list and facebook group.

Training

The club provides regular climbing sessions at the wall in the Sports Centre in St Andrews, as well as occasional trips to the larger walls in Dundee and Edinburgh.
