The University of St Andrews Badminton Club encompasses a fantastic, diverse and inclusive atmosphere, serving both competitive teams as well as social players. Throughout the year, members will have plenty of opportunity to get involved in playing, whether it is on a social or outreach basis, playing in our charity tournaments or representing the University at competitions.

Beginners, experienced players and all in between are very welcome. The club trains and plays at the University Sport Centre. We offer weekly training sessions, and compete in numerous inter-university and national tournaments – including the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) and Scottish Student Sport (SSS) leagues.

All teams are coached by a professional coach, Dan Travers, and the social sessions also offer beginner coaching from student coaches.

Teams & Competitions

For the 2017-18 Season, the Badminton Club will submit 2 teams into the BUCS Scottish tournament. This will involve entering mixed, level and singles teams. The 1st Team competing in BUCS Scottish 2A, whilst the 2nd Team will play in BUCS Scottish 4A. The club enters 1 team into the Dundee Area Badminton Association (DABA), which competes in Division 2. The club also plays 2 teams in the SSS Tayside and Fife League. Furthermore, the badminton club plays in BUCS Nationals, SSS Individual, Edinburgh-St Andrews Varsity, and as many Badminton Scotland sanctioned tournaments as possible.

Recreational Sessions

The club runs the Saints Sport recreational badminton sessions each Tuesday, Friday, Saturday – 1-4pm when there are no home matches being played, as well as 7-9pm in the evening.

Charity Work

The Badminton Club organises an annual charity tournament which brings a variety of individuals, including alumni, back to the university. This always proves a fantastic atmosphere, and is an overall great success. The success of this tournament can be seen as during the 2015-16 season as the club raised £253 for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) through their Charity Club Championships Tournament. This included a charity handicap doubles tournament and Racketlon in collaboration with the other Saints racket sports clubs.
