The last four years have seen unprecedented growth for the University of St Andrews Basketball Club. The teams compete at some of the highest level of Scottish University Basketball and each year are building a stronger and more competitive programme. The Club also offers recreational sessions for those wanting to play at a lower level. The programme is fast becoming one of the best in the country.
The Basketball Club is made up of two competitive Women’s Team, two competitive Men’s Teams and two recreational Club Teams. The Women’s Basketball Team is one of the University’s high performance teams, having seen much progress and achievement in recent years and now competing in BUCS Premier Division having won BUCS Scottish Division 1 in 2015-2016 and won Division 2 in season 2012-2013. The team came 2nd in the league in their debut season and after last season’s promotion will be playing at the highest level of BUCS. The Women’s Team also plays in the Scottish National League and the programme is run by head coach Callum Knox. The Men’s Basketball Team have undergone much restructuring in the last few years and is now run as two competitive teams playing in both the BUCS Division 2 and 4 respectively. Primary focus for both the first and second team is on progressing to higher levels in the BUCS league; the men’s teams are run by head coach Ross Bain.
The Club also caters for recreational and social basketball and runs regular Club sessions once a week for both Men and Women who are looking to play in a more relaxed environment, learn the sport, improve their skills, or have ambitions of moving into one of the 1st Team squads.
We have two new state of the art basketball courts as part of the current redevelopment and extension of the Sports Centre and seating for 400 spectators, which will be hugely beneficial for the University teams and provide a great opportunity to further increase the reach of the club.
