Polo Club - Semester 1 Report 2016-17
Monday 06 February 2017
The Polo Club had a great first semester. Beginning the year with a strong committee, we were able to sign up over 100 members in September to continue the club’s strong record of growth over the last few years. We had a record number of people taking lessons this semester, and our group of beginners (new players) is the largest and most active in recent memory. Our top levels are excelling as well, with our Intermediate and Novice 1 players racking up several wins including at the Edinburgh Annual Tournament and in SSS league play. We hosted Cambridge and Newcastle in head to head tournaments and are now actively preparing for Winter Nationals, to take place next February, where we will see both these teams again.
Semester 2 is the busiest semester for our club. We start with three tournaments in a row in February, two in High Wycombe straddling the all-important Winter Nationals in Rugby. We will field six teams for nationals, the highest in recent memory by a good margin. We expect strong showings in all divisions, particularly Novice 1 and Beginner 1 where we have shots at the title.
We are also busily preparing for the annual St Andrews Charity Polo Tournament, to take place again this year on April 22nd at Errol Park Estate in Perthshire. Finally, two discussed goals are to keep the broader membership engaged through February and into the spring and to support and train our new younger committee members as they settle into their roles.
