Triathlon Club - Semester 1 Report 2016-17
Saturday 28 January 2017
This semester has been an outstanding one for the Triathlon Club. The club has grown significantly, with paid membership already doubled from the last academic year. We continue to train hard with seven sessions per week, four of which are coached by our fantastic coach Ross Whittaker. Current training sessions include a track session, four swimming sessions, a cycle, and a studio session, which either focuses on strength and conditioning or spinning.
As has always been the case, the club’s members are diverse, open and welcoming, and the club has a truly warm atmosphere. This is aided by our regular socials, ranging from Sinners and the more sophisticated wine and cheese evenings and delicious potlucks.
Attendance at races has been excellent all semester. We have taken part in two Aquathlons (swimming and running) in Dundee and Aberdeen (this was a SSS event), and on both occasions Saints athletes have finished on the podium, including our Captain, Kristóf Anheuer, and one of our Race Directors, Madeleine Bell. At the race in Dundee our triathletes made up a third of the total competitors. The 5k Santa Fun Run in Cupar at the end of November was an excellent way to finish the 2016 race calendar and everyone had a lot of fun!
Additionally, we hosted our annual Duathlon in October. We received excellent feedback for this and over 75 people took part. Our new relay team entries were particularly popular and encouraged many beginners to get involved.
The Triathlon Club is becoming increasingly involved in the local community; we have just started to help out with a children’s triathlon club at a local school, and hope to become much more engaged with other volunteering opportunities in the near future.
