Table Tennis Club - Semester 1 Report 2016-17
Saturday 28 January 2017
Overall, there have been plenty of promising signs for the Table Tennis Club this semester. Firstly, the club managed to send three teams (two Men’s and one Women’s) to BUCS this year and the Men’s 1st Team seems like they have come back to the form, which saw them win the league in 2014-2015. They are currently sitting in second place in BUCS Scottish 1A league and are only one win away from moving joint top with Strathclyde 1st Team.
Competing in the same league our Men’s 2nd Team have battled hard, but are currently at the bottom of the table having lost all six matches in the first semester. Nevertheless, in the last few matches several players have had some good performances and we are hoping the team can move up the league by the end of next semester.
Our Women’s Team have had some brilliant performances during the season so far and currently sit just below Strathclyde 1st Team in BUCS Scottish 1A, their only defeat coming from the league leaders. Yet, the table can be reversed in just one match so it is still possible for the team to win the league.
During the first semester the club has also seen an increase in the number of enthusiastic social members join, having worked hard on promotion from the very beginning of the year. We now have a lot more players than in the last few years, some of which have the potential to move up into the competitive teams. All our members have been able to develop their skills and techniques through our recreational sessions on Fridays and Sundays with the help of our coach Paul. With around 30 members now in the club we have built a solid foundation for the future and the turnout for each of our sessions has been extremely high.
