Ice Hockey Club - Semester 1 Report 2016-17
Saturday 28 January 2017
This semester the Typhoons gained seven new players, and have welcomed back a returning postgraduate, who have all immediately contributed to the team. We have participated in three British Universities Ice Hockey Association league games this semester, with five to follow in the next semester. Competing in the Division 1 North, we are currently tied for first place, after two wins and our only loss coming to the Edinburgh Eagles.
The spring semester will be a busy one for the Typhoons, as our five remaining league games will be played in a six-week span. With three road trips, and two home games in Fife, we look to close out the season with another league championship title. Semester 2 also see the return of the annual Jonny Wookey Memorial Varsity against Edinburgh in early April. This year our aim is to continue growing our spectator base by attracting another record attendance, beating last year’s 1,200 attendance. The game is an annual fundraiser in memorial of Jonny Wookey and Kieran McCann. Finally, in Semester 2 is the BUIHA National Tournament in Sheffield. The Typhoons will look to continue at this year’s tournament with a strong showing, hoping to bring the Division 1 National Championship trophy back to St Andrews.
